Who We Are and Who We Write For

Disability Help Today is an independent Social Security Disability resource focused on adults 50-62. We are not a law firm, and we are not affiliated with the Social Security Administration (SSA) or any government agency.

We write for people applying for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI), people appealing a denial, and the family members helping them. Many of our readers are dealing with a health condition, lost income, and a complicated process all at once. Our job is to make that process easier to understand and to help each reader take one clear next step.

Our Editorial Standards

Every page we publish follows these standards:

  • Accurate: Every rule, deadline, dollar amount, and statistic is checked against an official source before publication.
  • Plain language: We explain legal and medical terms the first time we use them, such as RFC (Residual Functional Capacity) or ALJ (Administrative Law Judge), and we answer the reader’s question first.
  • Honest about outcomes: We never promise approval, guarantee results, or use fear to push readers toward a decision. When odds are low at a stage, we say so and explain why it still matters.
  • Written for real situations: We cover what changes for readers over 50, including how Social Security weighs age, education, and past work.
  • Respectful: We write with care for people who are sick, worried, or worn down by the process, and we never blame readers for a denial.
  • Clear about what we are: Our content is educational. It is not legal advice, and we tell readers when they should speak with a qualified disability attorney or representative.

How We Source Information

We build our content on primary sources and link to them so readers can check our work. Our main sources are:

We do not rely on other websites, forums, or third-party blogs for legal rules or statistics. When a figure changes over time, we state the year or date it applies to.

How Our Content Is Created and Reviewed

Each page moves through the same steps before it reaches you:

  1. Research: We identify the questions readers ask most and gather the rules, deadlines, and data from the official sources listed above.
  2. Writing: Our editorial team writes the page in plain language, answering the main question first and noting what changes for readers over 50.
  3. Editorial review: A senior editor checks every fact against its source, confirms links work, and reviews the page for clarity, tone, and completeness.
  4. Legal review: A licensed disability attorney reviews the page for legal accuracy (see Legal Review below).
  5. Publication: Each page shows its author, its legal reviewer, and the date it was last updated.

Legal Review

Pages that explain eligibility rules, deadlines, appeals, or legal rights are reviewed by a licensed attorney with experience in Social Security Disability law before they are published. The reviewer checks that rules, deadlines, and regulatory references are accurate and current. The reviewer’s name and credentials appear on each page they review.

Current legal reviewer: [Attorney Name, Credentials, State Bar Admission]

Legal review confirms accuracy. It does not create an attorney-client relationship between the reviewer and any reader, and our content does not replace advice about your specific situation.

Keeping Content Current

Social Security rules and figures change. Several key amounts, such as the Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) limit and benefit amounts, are adjusted every January. Processing times and approval rates change as SSA publishes new data.

  • We update affected pages when SSA announces new annual figures.
  • We review our published pages on a regular schedule and when rules or regulations change.
  • Each page shows the date it was last updated, and figures that change over time include the year they apply to.

Our Independence

Our content is free to read. When a reader requests a free disability case review, we share their information with Clauson Disability, a separate company that follows up with them about their request.

This relationship does not influence what we publish. Clauson Disability does not write, edit, or approve our content, and it cannot change our editorial positions. We do not endorse or rank individual attorneys or advocates, and we do not publish paid or sponsored content presented as editorial content.

Use of Technology

Our editorial team uses software tools, including AI-assisted tools, to help with research, organization, and first drafts. These tools never publish content on their own. Every page is fact-checked by a human editor against official sources and goes through legal review before publication, and our editorial team is responsible for everything we publish.

Corrections and Feedback

If you find an error, an outdated figure, or a broken link, please tell us through our contact page. Include the page address and what you believe needs to change.

We review every report. When we confirm an error, we correct the page promptly and update its “Last Updated” date. If a correction changes a rule, deadline, or figure a reader may have relied on, we note the correction on the page.
